THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORD--1 SAMUEL 9:26-27

THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORD
1 SAMUEL 9:26-27
“And they arose early: and it came to pass about the spring of the day, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad. 27- And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,)but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God.”

Introduction:

The Apostle Paul said in Galatians 6:6, “Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.” The Believer has an obligation to communicate the Gospel to every man. The knowledge of the Gospel is the greatest gift a man can receive in his lifetime.

Considering how great this gift might be look at the following thoughts regarding the knowledge of the Word of God.

I. IT IS THE WORD OF TRUTH
A. It is our HOPE, Psalms 119:43, “And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in thy judgments.”

1. The word of truth cannot be a joy to our mouths unless we have experienced it in our lives, Psalms 51:14, “Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.”

2. Our hope is that the Lord will soon bring wickedness to an end, Psalms 7:9, “Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.”

B. It is the BASIS of our TRUSTING in Christ as Savior, Ephesians 1:13, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,”

1. Truth shall be established forever, Proverbs 12:19, “The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.”

2. Today one who stands for the truth makes himself a prey, Isaiah 59:14-15, “And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. 15- Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.”

3. We can’t give place to error, Galatians 2:5, “To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.”

C. The Truth shows that GOD’S WILL IS to TRUST Christ as Savior, James 1:18, “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.”

II. IT IS THE WORD OF FAITH
A. The Word is close to us, Romans 10:8, “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;”

B. The Word that you have heard is in your heart, Romans 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

1. By the preaching of the Word, Jeremiah 23:28, “The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.”

a. The dream tellers cause the people to forget the name of the Lord, Jeremiah 23:27, “Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.”

b. The Preachers of the Word, 2 Timothy 4:2, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”

C. The Word of God accomplishes that which pleases God, Isaiah 55:11, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

D. It is the Word of Faith, Romans 10:9, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

III. THE WORD OF RECONCILIATION
A. God has chosen to reconcile the world to Himself through Jesus Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:19, “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”

1. In times past you were FAR AWAY FROM the Lord, Ephesians 2:11-12, “Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; 12- That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:”

2. But NOW you are CLOSE by faith in Christ, Ephesians 2:13, “But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made NIGH by the blood of Christ.”

B. Christ has become our High Priest and made reconciliation for His people, Hebrews 2:17, “Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.”

1. We have been reconciled by the death of Christ, Romans 5:10, “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”

2. We were enemies, but we have been reconciled with God, Colossians 1:21, “And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled.”

3. We have become Ambassadors for Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:20, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”
