OUTLINE OF ELISHA, THE SUCCESSOR
2 Kings 2-8,13:20-21
The Making of a man of God.
Elisha was available, 1 Kings 19:16.
• He was one of the 7,000 still true to God.
• He was a prosperous farmer, a successful businessman, but he hadn't forgotten God.
Elisha was appointed, 1 Kings 19:19-21.
• Elijah's placing his mantle on Elisha represented a call to ministry. It was a mandate from God.
• Elisha's commitment was most dramatic in that he sacrificed to God the oxen by which he had made his living. And he became Elijah's servant.
Elisha was anointed, 2 Kings 12:9-13.
• Elisha wanted a double portion of Elijah's spirit on him.
Note: It is interesting to note that Elijah performed 8 miracles and Elisha performed 16! A double portion.
