THE DOCTRINE OF THE CREATION

MEMORY VERSE: GEN. 1:1

Genesis 1-3 reveals what God created. This portion of Scripture has been denied by liberals, modernists and unbelieving scientists. If the Bible cannot be literally believed at this point, how can we be sure it is correct elsewhere? It is all the verbally inspired word of God and it must all stand together or fall together. The Bible does not set out to prove the existence of God. "The fool bath said in his heart, there is no God." Psa. 14:1

I. THE GENESIS ACCOUNT OF CREATION TO BE ACCEPTED LITERALLY.

A. Facts About Genesis 1:1. (a)-1

1. The word for God is "Elohim" a uni-plural noun, which fits the trinitarian view of God. It means the Almighty One.

2. The word for created is "bare" and is only used in relationship to God's work for He alone can create. It is a singular verb and requires a singular subject.

3. In Gen. 1:1 we have the beginning of time, space, and matter.

B. The Days Of Creation Were Literal Solar Days. (a)-2 Ex. 20:11

1. The Hebrew word for "day" or "days" is "yam" or "yamin" and is found over 700 times in the O.T. When it is accompanied by a number (first, second, third, etc.), it always means a literal solar day. There are no exceptions. In some instances the singular "yam" is used to indicate an indefinite period of time, but never when it is accompanied by a number.

2. The six days of God's creation, likened time wise to man's six days of labor. (a)-1 Ex. 20:11

C. God Did Not Use Evolution In Creation..

1. We do not accept the gap theory taught by Scofield.

2. We do not believe that each day was a long geologic age.

a. This would be contrary to the use of "yamin" for day.

b. Adam was a fully developed man, and had named all the beasts and fowls (Gen. 2:18-20), before Eve was made from Adam's rib (Gen. 2:21-24).

c. Adam was created the sixth day and lived through the seventh day and on to be 930 years of age (Gen. 5:5). If each one of the days of creation were long ages then he would have been many thousands of years old when he died. Perhaps he would have been from 500,000 to 750,000 years old. See (c)-1 Gen. 2:7; (c)-2 Gen. 2:21-23

d. Each living thing was to reproduce after its kind. (d)-1 Gen. 1:11; (d)-2 Gen. 1:24. This is why the missing links will always be missing. There is variety within the specie, but there is no evolution of specie or changing to another kind.

II. GOD THE CREATOR OF ALL THINGS.

A. The Scriptures Declare God To Be The Creator. See all Scripture under (a).

B. Christ Active In The Creation. (a)-4 Col. 1:16,17; (a)-6 John 1:3

C. Man Created In The Image Of God. (b)-1 Gen. 1:26,27; (b)-2 I Cor. 11:7. This has to do with being a spiritual being. See John 4:24; Heb. 12:9; Zech. 12:1; Pro. 20:27; Eccl. 12:7.

D. The Purpose Of The Creation.

1. For Him. (a)-4 Col. 1:16,17

2. For His pleasure. Rev. 4:11
